Assistant Teachers

In 1987 I developed a sudden urge to start meditating. I purchased a “how to meditate book” and proceeded to sit cross-legged, staring at a candle and counting from one to ten and then back to one, over and over again. Thankfully, I had mentioned my new activity to a recent acquaintance who invited me to join her meditation group, which met twice a week in a member’s living room. That definitely sounded more interesting than counting numbers on my own!

After about two weeks of attending these meetings it was excitedly announced that the teacher was coming through town and would be holding class. I had no idea what a teacher did or what “class” was, but the excitement was contagious and I was happy to participate. The impact of that first Kuṇḍalinī Sādhana class changed the course of my life. I knew without a doubt that I would always be a spiritual student and that I had found my practice.

Since 1991 I have had the honor of sharing my life and spiritual journey with Swami Khecaranatha, the director of TrikaShala. He initiated me as a teacher in this lineage in 2003 and has given me the opportunity to teach open-eye classes at the center. I am deeply grateful for his unending support in my effort to recognize and abide as the divinity within.
